Volcanic by its nature, volcanic by its culture, Clermont-Ferrand nurtures a close relationship with the dormant volcanoes. It was through them that the city came to life in faraway times

The Chaîne des Puys - Limagne Fault was awarded Unesco World Heritage status on 2 July 2018.

Clermont-Ferrand is located midway between northern and southern Europe, and is the capital of the Auvergne region. The city is the natural gateway to the vast Massif Central territory and has a strategic position in the centre of France at the crossroads of Europe.

The capital of the Auvergne region has exceptional surroundings, between the Puys Mountain Range and its volcanoes, majestically overlooked by the famous Puy de Dôme, and the former battlefield of Gergovia where Vercingétorix defeated Cæsar. At Vulcania, Europe's unique Park on Volcanism, your heart will beat to the rythm of the Universe.

To the North are the fertile cereals plains of the Limagne; to the East, the sun rises over the wooded mountains of the Livradois-Forez, highlighting their remarkable beauty.

A few hours from Paris, the central location of Clermont-Ferrand is one of its major assets. The city counts around 150,000 inhabitants and 350,000 if we include all the Clermont-Ferrand community (towns in the Clermont-Ferrand suburbs). The city counts around 40,000 students and 6,000 researchers.

A city of industrial tradition, head office of Michelin, Clermont-Ferrand is also well positioned in the pharmaceutical, agri-food and aerospace industries

The Auvergne region will host the Tour de France 2020, during stages 13 and 14 :
Châtel-Guyon > Puy Mary Cantal - September 11th - 191km
Clermont-Ferrand > Lyon - September 11th - 197km

Clermont will host like every year 'the sommet de l'élevage' (Europe's n°1 livestock show) on october 7th, 8th, 9th for 3 days full of animations : 2000 animals of high genetic level, 1500 exhibitors specialized in breeding business (conferences, animations about the agricultural topics)
